What Does
Slurry Blasting Mean?
Slurry blasting is a cleaning process that involves mixing abrasive particles with pressurized water, and then directing the high-velocity mixture towards a surface. The water-particle combination impacts the surface to remove paints, coatings, debris and contaminants. Slurry blasting is preferred over dry blasting in areas where dust suppression is essential.
Slurry blasting is also known as wet abrasive blasting.
Corrosionpedia Explains Slurry Blasting
During slurry blasting, the abrasive particles are encapsulated by the water as they are directed toward the surface. This "water jacket" surrounds the particles and holds them in place via surface tension. As the abrasives impact the object’s surface, the tension and weight of the water prevent the abrasives and dust formed by the process from bouncing off the surface.
Because dust formation is minimized, slurry blasting is particularly useful in residential areas and locations near sensitive machinery. While this method is sometimes referred to as dustless, small amounts of dust can still be formed.
