What Does Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) Mean?

A quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) is a laboratory technique used by molecular biology based on a polymerase chain reaction. In this process, the amplification of a targeted deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecule undergoing a chain reaction is monitored on a real time basis.

Quantitative polymerase chain reaction may also be known as real time polymerase chain reaction.

The quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technique has many applications, however, in the corrosion field it is used to study the microbial changes that occur in nanocomposites (e.g., polyvinyl acetate) while manufacturing corrosion resistant coatings.

The microbial induced corrosion (MIC) testing services make use of certain procedures (quantitative polymerase chain reaction techniques) such as the census MIC technique, which is a nucleic acid based approach to quantify specific groups of microorganisms under evaluation. The census MIC technique is used to evaluate sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), methanogens, acetogens, nitrate-reducing bacteria and others on the real time basis.
