Many structures, including but not limited to bridges, jetties and offshore platforms, are partially if not completely surrounded by water. Similar to buildings and other aboveground construction, these submerged structures require regular maintenance to ensure that they are safe and comply with relevant codes and standards. Regular and consistent underwater inspections should form an integral part of an asset’s quality control and management plan.
Traditionally, underwater inspections were conducted by specially trained and certified commercial divers. However, with the advent of modern technology, unmanned underwater vehicles can be used to complement diving teams or even perform standalone inspections in challenging environments.
In this quiz we will test your knowledge of underwater inspections, with an emphasis on underwater vehicles and the use of modern technology.
