What Does
Adhesion Mean?
Adhesion refers to the likelihood of two dissimilar surfaces or molecules to attract and/or join to each other. It is key property in determining the efficiency of corrosion protection methods such as coatings. Greater adhesion between the coating and the application’s surface increases the degree of protection.
Corrosionpedia Explains Adhesion
Adhesion is affected by five main mechanisms: mechanical, chemical, dispersive, electrostatic and diffusive. Each mechanism is present depending on the environment in which adhesion occurs. More than one mechanism can exist in any given system or application.
