Corrosionpedia Explains Burr

A burr can be considered a safety hazard. They are often thin and sharp, and consequently can damage materials or injure people.

A burr can act as a stress concentrator or riser. Contaminates can become trapped around a burr and accelerate the rate of corrosion in that area.

There are several types of deburring methods designed to eliminate these risks, including mechanical deburring, manual deburring and electropolish deburring.
