What Does
Spray Pattern Mean?
A spray pattern refers to the shape of a fluid that is released from a pressurized source. Spray patterns determine the degree of evenness with which a protective fluid coating is applied to a surface. A good spray pattern ensures better corrosion prevention.
Corrosionpedia Explains Spray Pattern
Air spray is a painting technique where paint is applied to a surface via a spray gun that is air pressurized. With this method, coating products such as paint, varnish or even ink are sprayed onto a surface.
The quality of the initial spray pattern should be closely examined prior to continued use of air (or airless) spray guns by using the following tests: pattern shape, atomization, and material distribution. All tests are performed on a disposable piece of paper or cardboard. The application gun is sprayed on the test material and examined for inconsistent or excessive material deposits.
Spray pattern shape and material distribution tests are used to check for uneven lumps or bends during material application. Spray pattern atomization is used to test for consistency in droplet size.
