Corrosionpedia Explains Insulation Jacket

Insulation jackets are manufactured from a variety of protective substances, primarily metal. The use of other metals as sacrificial anodes to protect the base metal is referred to as metal jacketing. It is used to impede the flow of free energy and ions, keeping the base material dry and free of damage. Special jackets may also be designed to provide fire protection.

Substances that are commonly used for insulation jackets include stainless steel, aluminum and corrugated sheets, and nonmetallic materials such as thermoplastics and fabrics.
