What Does Degreaser Mean?

A degreaser is a solvent-based or solvent-containing cleaning agent. It is a chemical product mostly used for the removal of water-insoluble substances such as grease, paint, oil, lubricants, corrosive products, abrasive dust and all other organic films. This cleaning agent is especially made for the removal of grease.

Degreasers can be used in a variety of industries such as aircraft, automotive, nuclear power plants, pharmaceutical, paint, printing, transportation, optics, marine and semiconductor. They can also be used in domestic cleaning, e.g. floors, tiles cleaning, etc.

Degreasers are chemical substances that dissolve water-insoluble substances (greases, dirt and oils) from hard surfaces. They are generally used as a degreasing agent for removing substances from machines, floors, tools and hard surfaces. They are used to remove grease, grime, oil and other oil-based contaminants from a variety of substrates including automotive or miscellaneous metallic parts. A degreaser is generally required in areas that need heavy duty cleaning such as restaurants. Heavy duty degreasers are manufactured from hydrocarbon solvents such as kerosene and xylene.

Degreasers can be solvent-based or solvent-containing substances, and may contain surfactants as active ingredients. An alkaline washing agent may be added to the solvent-containing degreaser to enhance its degreasing ability. Degreasers can also be produced as solvent-free, based on alkaline chemicals and/or surfactants.
