A corrosion rate conversion is the act of changing the measurement units of a given corrosion rate to another unit for comparison or a specific engineering application. Corrosion rate conversions can be done either manually or through the use of computer software. When done manually, conversion calculations can be performed using factors and data obtained from corrosion rate conversion charts.

Corrosion rates can be expressed in several ways using different types of units. These rates may be expressed in terms of:
Corrosion current: mA cm-2
Mass loss: g m-2 day-1
Penetration rates: mm y-1 or mpy
During specific engineering applications it may be necessary to convert the calculated conversion rate from one unit to another. For example, it may be more appropriate to express the corrosion rate as mA cm-2 as opposed to mpy. In this case, charts are used to perform the necessary conversions. Depending on the type of conversion being performed, additional information such as the material density, atomic mass of the element and the valence of metallic elements in the alloy may need to be known in advance.
