Corrosionpedia Explains Limestone Drop Test

Contact between rocks or other materials and a pipeline's coated surface may result in the complete or partial removal of said coating. This ultimately results in the pipeline becoming exposed to corrosion-causing conditions and degradation.

The limestone drop test is mostly used to examine the impact of rock, sediment, packed soil and other naturally occurring topographical residue that may come into contact with above ground and underground pipelines.

The limestone drop test is industrially known as a standardized test method for impact resistance of pipeline coatings. It is governed by ASTM G13.
