Corrosionpedia Explains Ester Solvent

Ester solvents characteristically have strong hydrogen bonds and polarity. They are able to dissolve a wide range of organic compounds, particularly biological species or environments that may act as corrosion attack facilitators on metallic substrates.

Ester solvents are also used for applications requiring the removal of spilled petroleum products from bodies of water. Ester solvents are non-toxic, non-volatile and biodegradable; thus, they are widely used instead of volatile, highly regulated solvents to clean contaminants from metallic objects.
