What Does
Trenchless Install Mean?
A trenchless install refers to a technique in which a subsurface pipeline, conduit, cable or any other utility is installed with little or no surface excavation. Trenchless installs are renowned for their ability to facilitate construction activities with minimal impact on the surrounding environment. This attribute makes trenchless installs ideal for highly developed or environmentally sensitive areas.
Corrosionpedia Explains Trenchless Install
Trenchless installs are used as an alternative to conventional open cut trenching installations (excavations), which typically occupy a relatively large site footprint and can cause significant damage to surrounding areas. Excavations are also accompanied by extensive and potentially costly site restoration work.
Trenchless installs, on the other hand, allow installation activities to proceed with almost no evidence of construction on the surface, making it the preferred method where minimal environmental disturbance is required.
Some of the most common trenchless installation techniques include microtunneling, horizontal direction drilling (HDD), pipe jacking and pipe ramming.
