Diacetone alcohol refers to a chemical substance that is a beta-hydroxy ketone. Diacetone alcohol is formed by the hydroxylation of 4-methylpentan-2-one. It is an oxygenated solvent and is mainly used in paints and coatings to protect metallic substrates against corrosion. It is also a good solvent for organic peroxides.
