Aniline

Last updated: May 25, 2017

What Does Aniline Mean?

Aniline is a poisonous amine with the chemical formula C6H5NH2 that is produced by the chemical breakdown of nitrobenzene. It is oily in texture and primarily used to organically synthesize materials such as dyes.

Anilines are used as corrosion inhibitors for aluminum and other metal surfaces. Its oily physical texture is applied as a coating on the surface to be protected. Its high viscosity reduces moisture penetration and electrochemical ions that act as corrosion causing agents.

Corrosionpedia Explains Aniline

Aniline hydrochloric salt in the presence of sodium sulfate and sodium chloride has been examined for corrosion inhibition of mild steels in acid solutions. Such studies have found that chloride ions had a significant effect on amine inhibition of amines and reduced corrosion of mild steels.
