Metallography is the study of metals and alloys, primarily their structures. The application of metallography mainly includes observation, often via microscopy, to determine the metal’s chemical and atomic structure, and the distribution of the components or the phases.
The metallographic analysis process is used to identify metals or alloys, as well as the various identifying characteristics associated with a given metallic substance. Such properties range from grain size and grain growth to inter-metallic phase microstructure.
