Vinyl acetate refers to a chemical compound with the molecular formula C4H6O2. Vinyl acetate occurs as a clear colorless liquid, is soluble in water, and is denser than air. Vinyl acetate facilitates the occurrence of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) when used for the industrial processing of adhesives and paints.

One form of vinyl acetate is ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), which is a copolymer of ethylene and various concentrations of vinyl acetate (VA). The chemical presence of vinyl acetate interferes with chain packing, crystallinity and other intermolecular strengthening and boundary formations. This leads to reduced durability and increased corrosion susceptibility. Crystallinity has an inversely proportional relationship with vinyl acetate.
