Erosion is the gradual removal of material from a surface due to the continuous physical interaction between the surface and a passing contact fluid. Erosion can also refer to a type of corrosion that is formed due to the persistence of this occurrence.
Erosion corrosion refers to the wearing down of a metal surface due to prolonged exposure to an oxidizing fluid such as water and other polar liquids. It can be prevented by coating or lining a metal surface before exposure.
