What Does Lattice Truss Mean?

A lattice truss is an infrastructural design component used in construction applications. It consists of interlaced chords that are cross-linked horizontally and diagonally to provide stability and support to a structure.

Due to the presence of multiple structural members and a corresponding increase in the number of corners present in a single structure, lattice trusses are more prone to pitting and crevice corrosion that may go unnoticed.

A lattice truss provides increased structural stability due to its dispersion of forces because it is typically designed with more unit members than are required. The total forces of a lattice truss depend on the individual forces and stiffness of each member, in addition to the equilibrium conditions.

Crevice corrosion may occur in lattice truss structures because every interlaced angle acts as a pocket where water and debris may accumulate. Blast cleaning is often used to expose corrosion of lattice members that may not be present during regular inspections due to material buildup.
