Cobwebbing is a type of coating defect experienced on metal surfaces after the application of a coating intended to prevent corrosion. Cobwebbing presents itself as small strands of scattered resin residue on a metal’s surface.
The occurrence of cobwebbing prevents adequate corrosion protection of a metallic surface because the surface is exposed to external corrosion agents that can gain entry via formed holes in the cobweb coating structure.

Cobwebbing appears as a spiderweb-like connection of strings. It is caused by inadequate application of the coating when it begins to dry before it makes contact with the metal’s surface.
